Postdoc | Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel

At the newly-founded group of Dr. Raya Sorkin, Department of Physical Chemistry, School of Chemistry, Tel Aviv University, Israel,
The aim of the two projects is to reveal the role and action mechanisms of fusion-mediating proteins in the process of membrane fusion, using a combination of single-molecule techniques (including optical tweezers and AFM). Two positions are available: to study membrane fusion in fertilization as well as membrane fusion during viral infection. The approach includes developing controlled model systems, such as micro-beads coated with membranes of defined composition with incorporated proteins of interest, to quantitatively study protein-protein and protein-membrane interactions.

Faculty and Postdoctoral positions | Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

As an integral part of the Chinese efforts to build first-rate universities, the Center for Life Sciences (CLS) was established in 2011 at Tsinghua and Peking Universities. It is supported by the central government through the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF). Collaboration in research will be highly encouraged among scientists from the two universities. At each university, the center will anchor faculty members distributed in multiple schools and departments, ranging from biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, to psychology and medicine, nurturing interdisciplinary interactions. The center expects its independent laboratories led by principal investigators to pursue important scientific questions. Applications are invited for Principal Investigator (PI) at Center for Life Sciences. They are recruiting scientists with the best potential to carry out creative research of long-term significance in the life sciences; positions are open at all ranks from Assistant, Associate and Full Investigatorship positions.

Postdoc | Delft, the Netherlands

In the context of a new initiative to strengthen collaborations between TU Delft and ErasmusMC, Gijsje Konderink’s Biological Soft Matter lab at TU Delft has a postdoc position available in the area of mechanobiology and cartilage repair. This project joins expertise in soft matter physics of tissues (TU Delft) and in regenerative medicine (collaborators at Erasmus MC) towards the aim of generating tissue-mimetic hydrogels for human disease models and tissue regeneration. The postdoc in the Delft group will focus on making and characterizing tissue-mimetic gels and studying cell-gel mechanobiology; at the same time, a postdoc in the Erasmus MC group will focus on stem cell differentiation, cartilage repair, and an osteoarthritis-in-a-dish model. In collaboration with neighboring groups, we will also explore applications for neuronal and liver tissue.
